We have arranged the following training courses taking place over the coming months:
This Workshop we will look at Managing in a Crisis. we will consider specifically Risk Registers, that is to say organisational risk assessments, we will also look at continuity plans. The question to ask will be who had pandemic in their risk register?
The uncertainty of the past few months has required many of us to think on our feet and quickly adapt our services and projects to deal with the pandemic crisis. There has never been a time when it has been more important to take a step back, review, access and then plan the way forwards.
This short session is designed for Trustees of charities to help understand their role, responsibilities and duties.
21-Feb Reserves what are they and how to calculate them
Reserves are a critical element when building small charity resilience. However, they are often, for very valid reasons, miscalculated. The session will look at Why we hold reserves, How to calculate reserves, What a good reserves policy looks like and How to report on reserves
01-Mar Safefguarding for trustees and community buildings
This session will look at the legislation, and what Trustees need to know and do. It will also look at how best to apply it in a Community Building setting where you may be hiring space but have little direct interaction with the vulnerable people attending the activities.
Do you struggle writing successful funding bids? This session will take you through the key practical steps in describing the essential elements of your project, to tell funders what they need to know
05-Apr Financial Reporting and Making your Annual Return
Its sometimes hard to find your way through the Charity Commission requirements to file annual accounts, draft a Trustee’s annual Report and make an Annual Return. This workshop will look at what type of accounts you need to have and who needs to examine them. It will also consider what should be included in the Trustee report.
26-Apr Governance: what’s the right structure?
There is a wide range of not for profit structures ranging from registered charities to community interest companies. They all have specific benefits, and some drawbacks. This session will look at the main structures, and explain the benefits and issues associated with each of them.
10-May Finance Procedures and internal controls
If you are feeling that your processes may be leaving you a little exposed in the current circumstances or you just want to refresh yourself about good practice this workshop will look at Identifying the issues around managing cash and resources and where the key risks lie as well as Simple controls you can put in place to protect you from fraud and error (
Who is trying to access your data and what are the implications of this. Also what can you do to make it more difficult for people to steal your data.
24-May Having Difficult conversations
Talking to each other effectively is something that at times needs careful planning to avoid making a situation worse. This session will go through some helpful tips to prepare for difficult conversations, and look at the conversations themselves
07-Jun management accounts for small organisations
What do management accounts look like and why should you do them? The session will look at why we do them, how to do them, when to do them, what we do with them
28-Jun Employing the right people
You should treat employing new staff with the same enthusiasm and rigour that you use when buying your favourite new thing. You will rely on this person to contribute effectively to the success of your organisation. Time spent getting the right individual will be invaluable to you later on, and avoid both parties being dissatisfied.
05-Jul introduction to policies and procedures
Some polices are a legal requirement, others are good practice. As your organisation grows, others are simply to help you keep track of your organisation. This session will help you review your existing policies to see where there are areas that you might want to develop
From time to time we find people who are not happy with us or our service, this session will look at how to handle complaints and ensure that your complaints policy works when this happens.
We now offer all our training online. As we are not having to pay for venues we are passing that saving on to you, so all of these courses will cost only £6.50 per person. or £5.00 per person for those organisations that have paid a membership subscription to Community matters
